It seems the cyber criminals have taken a liking to the E-Toll emails as a new phishing email is making the rounds, following on from last month’s Road and Maritime Services email scam.

Fortunately the latest scam is nothing we haven’t seen before and it was easy to detect. This time the phishing scam targets Queenslands road and transport company, go via. It follows a similar pattern where you receive an email from the company and there is action to be taken – in this instance, the fake email from ‘go via’ will contain your tax invoice statement and will contain a few buttons and links for your to click on in order for you to download the statement.

Points to look out for:

• The sender’s email, do_not_reply@goviau.co, is on a domain which was only registered this week in China.
• Upon clicking on any of the links or call to action buttons, you will be directed to the malicious domain/website
• It’s not the first time go via have been used in an email phishing scam

The email looks something like this:

The go via website has a warning about go via branded email scams:

Anyone who has received this email should delete it immediately and ensure you do not click on any links provided. Customers with any queries regarding emails from go via or their account should contact us on 13 33 31.”

What to do next?

Of course do not click on any links on the email. If you are expecting an email from go via regarding a tax invoice statement then it’s best if you contact them directly to confirm if any emails were sent by them to you.
